Transportation Guidance
Here you will find helpful information about transportation here on the Big Island.
Note that it is HIGHLY recommended to have your own vehicle here when on island, since, although we do have Uber and Lyft, they are not as reliable or as plentiful on the mainland, and there is so much to do and see that is not accessible without a car.
Below I will cover Rental Car Companies and Turo.com, as well as a transportation service for moving lots of people.

Rental Car Companies
Rental cars are still expensive here in Hawaii, but if you feel comfortable with the more "traditional" rental car companies (i.e. Avis, Hertz, Budget), these are all available at the Kona Airport.
Pro-Tip: If you have any kind of corporate or other discount, USE IT. This will save you a lot and may even give you a leg up on booking. If you have a Costco membership, look into rental car booking through them as well. You may have some luck! Almost all rental car companies have offices at the airport, and you'll usually get the best deals there (even with the airport fee).

Turo
Over the past year, Turo, an online place to rent local vehicles, has become very popular here on the island, and it has proven to have a lot of benefits to the renter! If you are not familiar with Turo (they have an app, or you can go to www.Turo.com), you are able to rent someone's personal local vehicle for your stay, and often the rental will come with perks like towels for your use, or beach equipment. You can often request airport pick up (they will park it in short term parking for you, which, in Kona, is super close), and the process is usually smooth and easy. There are reviews of the folks that rent the cars as well, as well as optional insurance.
Below I have some provided some direct links to cars from people I know and trust as well.

Derick of Ohana Private Car
Derick of Ohana Private Car drives groups around the island and to weddings in a 9 passenger van (so he can hold 8 people). He is also willing to simply wait if it's the kind of place where you need to drive yourselves (i.e they don't allow drop-off). It's super tricked out, and that's a great option to offer up to the group.

Steven of Blue Sky Transportation
Steven of Blue Sky Transportation is a wonderful resource if you are looking to move several people. His website is very basic (not surprising for folks here), but he comes very highly recommended by a couple of mine who transported all 20 of their wedding guests through his service. I spoke with him and he is super nice and really loves what he does.
Calling Steven directly seems to be the best way to get more information: (808) 428-9465
