Weddings in Space: My Vision for the NearFuture
As owner of Simple Kona Beach Weddings, I currently have the joy of creating intimate, meaningful, and beautiful beach weddings on the Big Island of Hawaii. Most days, my work takes place beside the ocean, with bare feet in the sand, the sound of waves nearby, with joy-filled couples promising forever beneath the open sky.
With the bar set so high, it feels hard to imagine something that could eclipse this natural beauty. But every night, I look up at the sky and see a different kind of beauty. The one that lives beyond this planet: space.
I had a dream not too long ago. It was one of those vivid, "This is trying to tell me something!" dreams. In this dream, I was in a room where a woman was explaining a routine task that needed to be done in space. She then looked at me and said, "Becky, why are you not volunteering for this position? This is perfect for you." So, even though I wondered why I was chosen, I said, "Yes. I'll do it!" And it was thrilling!
When I woke up, not only was I buzzing from excitement, but something old and familiar had been reawakened in me. I remembered how much I had once wanted to go to space as a child, and I even won an award for a short story I wrote about taking a spaceship to the moon with my family. Even though I never spoke about this much when I was younger, this dream has always been there, in the background, waiting for the right time.
Now feels like the right time.
So I took this dream as a message and began thinking about what it might actually take to go to space. I realized something that seemed extraordinary: space travel is no longer only for career astronauts. With the rise of commercial space tourism, the idea of civilians traveling beyond Earth on a more regular basis is becoming increasingly real.
And if people are going to space, then someone is going to get married there. Not just one person up in space and everyone else on Earth. I mean the whole ceremony, with the couple, the officiant, and anyone else they choose to have (knowing the craft may have limitations), in space.
I would love to be the person who officiates that wedding. If desired, we can then all fly to Hawaii and have a wedding on the beach to make it legal here on earth!
For me, weddings are not just events. They are moments of meaning. They are ceremonies that say, "This matters. This love matters. This choice matters. This moment in time matters."
And what could be more awe-inspiring than two people making that promise while looking back at Earth?
My work has always been about creating ceremonies that feel personal, heartfelt, grounded, and filled with a sense of wonder. Today, that usually happens on the shores of Hawaii. I now also envision it happening while floating above the planet. With commercial space travel beginning to take off, I expect this to happen sooner rather than later.
If this excites you and you are interested in exploring what a wedding in space would look like, please reach out! A hefty budget (or an excellent sponsor) would be required, so let's look at what's possible.
If you are part of a space tourism company, production team, documentary project, podcast, media outlet, interested in creative collaboration, or simply someone dreaming of a wedding in space, I would love to connect.
I have spent years helping couples celebrate love in one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
I would be honored to help celebrate love beyond it.

Why Becky Ringler to Officiate Your Space Wedding?
For more than a decade, I have helped nearly a thousand couples celebrate love on the Big Island of Hawaii, creating intimate beach weddings and vow renewals that feel personal, meaningful, and filled with aloha.
As both a wedding officiant and planner, I know how to hold space for a ceremony, guide a couple through an emotional moment, and help people feel calm, cared for, and present. My work often happens outdoors, in real-life conditions, where flexibility, warmth, and trust matter just as much as the words being spoken.
I also bring a unique background in communication, theatre, counseling psychology, expressive arts therapy, coaching, and storytelling — all of which shape the way I create and lead ceremonies. I also hold the awareness that, if our time in space is limited, it's important that the ceremony be impactful but brief, to allow time to soak in the beauty of Earth from above!
A wedding in space would be more than a beautiful photo opportunity. It would be a profound human moment in an extraordinary setting.
And when that moment comes, I would be honored to help make it meaningful.
